An Interview with Charley Mahon – Founder of CB2BB

We sat down with U.S. Army Veteran and CB2BB founder Charley Mahon to get to the heart of why he launched this coaching platform for veterans—and why he believes entrepreneurship might just save more than careers.

Q: Charley, what inspired you to start CB2BB?

A: I didn’t plan to be a coach. I just saw too many veterans struggling, and too many coaches out there who didn’t understand the veteran mindset. I’d been helping folks in trucking for years, and eventually, other vets started asking me for guidance. That’s when it clicked—maybe what I’ve learned could help others build something real.

Q: You’ve had your own struggles after service. Can you talk a little about that?

A: Yeah. I was in a serious accident back in ’93. I’d been out collecting evidence in extreme heat on Fort Bragg. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was a heat casualty—dehydrated to the point of dangerous mental impairment. I was riding my motorcycle home when another driver cut me off hard. I swerved, hit a signpost, and was launched over 170 feet through the air. I broke 19 bones and sustained a traumatic brain injury that wasn’t diagnosed for years. I don’t remember the accident or the next few days. And honestly, if it weren’t for my wife Rosy and my kids, I might not have made it through. They gave me something to focus on—something to fight for.

Q: How did that lead to coaching?

A: Pain makes you pay attention. I spent years rebuilding—physically, mentally, financially. I learned how to survive and then how to grow a business. People started coming to me for help. I guess they saw I was doing something right. Eventually, I realized this wasn’t just about business—it was about mission, purpose, and helping others find a path forward too.

Q: You’ve mentioned the 22-a-day veteran suicide statistic. How does that shape your mission?

A: That number haunts me. Honestly, I believe I could’ve been part of it. If I can help just one vet out of the fog and into something that gives them purpose—then this work matters. Business might not fix everything, but structure, connection, and hope? That saves lives.

Q: What would you say to a veteran who’s stuck?

A: You’re not broken. You’re not behind. You just need a mission that makes sense to you—and someone who speaks your language to walk alongside you. That’s why I built CB2BB. You’re not starting over. You’re starting smarter.

Q: What role has coaching played in your own journey?

A: Huge. I didn’t do this alone. I’ve had amazing coaches who’ve kept me grounded and focused. My business partner Jeff Morton has been with me every step. And our coach Josh Hull really challenged me to stop holding back and make this available to veterans who need it. That’s the kind of push I needed—and now it’s the kind of push I offer to others.

“You’re not starting over. You’re starting smarter. And you’re not doing it alone.”
